Investigation: Color Walk

Color Walk

Notice the unnoticed with an expedition to seek out a hidden palette. Then share your findings with a color map.

Take a walk, pick a color that catches your eye and watch your surroundings come into focus as you follow the color from object to object. What things match the hue? A yellow coat, a yellow traffic cone, a blooming yellow flower. Give yourself one full hour of uninterrupted time, no calls, no errands, just eye time. Be sure to take photos along the way.

Doing a color walk was very therapeutic and calming. I got to focus my energy into paying attention to the environment around me. I took a walk around my neighborhood and went through streets I’ve never walked through before. I got to explore Berkeley through the lens of color. I also enjoyed being able to enjoy photography in this way. The aesthetic is cohesive and pleasing to look at. Color is an engaging way to bring different items together. I wish to practice color walks in my future endeavors as a way to take a break from thinking and shifting to observing. Overall, I enjoyed this color walk and I hope to bring it back into my practice for future projects.
