During their lecture I learned about education through definitions, categories, and an activity. Education is a transfer of knowledge that is often individualized and face to face. This could cause bias toward the teacher but knowledge is still transferred between 2 people. Education allow for de-privilegization because everyone can gain access to information. There are 3 main categories for learning: formal (institution based), informal (learning from experiences), and non-formal (self teaching). They also brought up the Google Science Fair - an event that is accessible for anyone despite their background or experiences.
They facilitated a workshop to help us reflect on classes, projects, skills, processes, and resources from our CCA experience. We used post its to ideate on each of these topics and used a worksheet to guide us. Reflection is an effective way to learn more about ourself and to learn where there are gaps.
The quote about reflection was very insightful to me and I want to see where I can implement reflection into my future projects. When you perceive education as a transfer or knowledge or information, you can see how technology today teaches people.
For my thesis I'm still exploring how I want to raise awareness or facilitate conversations around grief and loss. It would interesting to see how education can play a role in the future experience I want to create.
