Topic Exploration: Sound in Design
Topic: Sound in Design
FACILITATED BY: Eugina, Kendra, Heather
During this lecture the facilitators gave a brief overview on how sound in design has evolved. It went from radios and orchestras to now receiving feedback from alerts and notifications. Mimicking existing sounds has become a popular way to integrate sound. Audi electric vehicles are integrating synthetic sounds for the safety of the drivers and pedestrians. Sound has become an integral part of branding due how it can grab people’s attentions and match the feel of visuals. Sound can be perceived in 6 ways: brain stem reflect, evaluative conditioning, emotional contagion, visual imagery, episodic memory hearing, and music expectancy. Consider how these elements can be used within the design of UI elements to prompt users in the right way.
