During this lecture the facilitators explained the different facets of sustainability. First, the definition of sustainability has shifted from when it was first coined to what is is now. There is now an integration of socio-economic values within the definition. Consumerism and product ownership is also a big topic in sustainability. For example smartphones contain many non-sustainable parts; the fact that everyone has owned over 1 smartphone shows our impact. There are carbon emissions with almost anything we do related to technology. The internet also leads to carbon emissions - a click, a google search, etc. Some methods to help are to unplug electronics when not in use, use a phone over a computer, etc. Information awareness and social awareness are also areas where people can help with sustainability.
