Website Iterations (4/13-4/17)

This week I planned to work on the website. I’ve been feeling emotionally low so it’s been hard to stay motivated. But at least I tried to play around with how the website could look.

Website Design

I wasn’t happy with how Squarespace was organizing information, so I tried out figma’s prototyping tool. It has the capabilities to have a clickable prototype in the same working space where I design assets. The biggest barrier with figma is creating a stagnant navigation bar. With a 1-scroll site, I would prefer if the navigation stays in the same place while it scrolls, but I was unable to figure it out. So I tried out a simple page-to-page navigation. I’m not committed to it yet, but it’s giving me a chance to explore the visual identity.

I also tried experimenting with how it would look as a 1-scroll without navigation. It would be less engaging and interactive, but it would still be effective with explaining the concept.

Script

This is a rough draft of the video script so far. This is an experience based video rather than a marketing/trailer type. In order to fully explain the project and how it works would take up a lot of time, so I’m still trying to figure out how to showcase that with video. I’m also worried about how to record an effective video with only myself, so I’m considering hand drawn elements or simple animations to also show in the video.

I’m not super confident with my illustrative skills, but it might be worth a try to see how it would look.

Storyboard

This is a rough idea of what imagery could fit in each section of the script. I think a mixture of photos, short clips, drawings, and small animations would be most effective.

Reflection

I did a lot of exploratory work with the website and I’m glad I got a rough idea for the video. I’m really happy with how the product shots and images look on the website, so I want to include them as much as I can. Quarantine is much harder than it seems, so I’ll try to keep myself on a schedule to get more work done next week.

Next Steps

Next week I’ll fully flesh out the website iterations I showed above and see how they look when all the content is present. If I’m unhappy with how they are turning out, I may just create an animated keynote to show the prototype rather than it being a live site. I’ll also refine the script and begin to create drawings or animations for the video.
